President’s Message – Jan. 2017

President’s Message

(January 2017)

Club dues have to be paid by February 1, 2017. If payment is not received by this date, memberships will be terminated and can only be reinstated by reapplying for membership and paying the new membership fee of $175.00. Please be sure to fill out the invoice form in full when making a payment. This is the only way we have of insuring that your contact and FOID data is up to date. Let me know if you did not receive an invoice.

If you are interested in running for the Board of Directors for the positions of vice president, treasurer, and three directors or want to make a nomination, please contact Gino Nizzi at 815-572-5625 or e-mail him at mxkied2@comcast.net. Nominations are due by February 1, 2017 and elections will be held in March 2017.

Once again I need to remind all of you that keeping the club clean is all of our responsibility. Recently I walked into the bath rooms and found urine all over the toilet seats, waste basked full with paper towels thrown on the floor. This is totally unacceptable. If you can’t pee straight, take a seat. Empty the bathroom waste baskets when full including the ones out in the club house and outside. I know the majority of our members do take time to tidy up the place. However there is a few that think that they are exempt. We have purchased a new vacuum cleaner located in the closet. When the floor is dirty, please vacuum.  If we have to start paying for these tasks, you can be sure that our rounds fee and/or our membership fees will increase. Please be a responsible member and pitch in. Thanks for your support.

A new budget for 2017 has been approved will be posted in the club house for your review.

WINTER SHOOTING RULES

Trap and skeet fields and sidewalks are to be cleared of snow before shooting. Shovels are outside of the club house and in the storage barn. The snow blower is available for use and is located in the storage barn. Do not shoot on fields that have not been cleared of snow. Doing so will compact the snow and make it difficult to remove. It is everyone’s job to pitch in to remove snow from the sidewalks and shooting fields. As always, gun cases are not permitted in the club house. Guns will be permitted, but it is strongly suggested that they only be kept inside if it is raining or snowing.

A new smaller Toro snow blower has been purchase to complement the larger blower.  Either blower can be used to clear fields and walks of snow.

If anyone is interested in getting certified for the handgun range, please contact Don Lyddon at 815-877-0754. You will need to bring a handgun, ammo, eye and ear protection, and a $25.00 annual fee.

The club held the second annual Turkey Shoot in November. It was a lot of fun. We had a number of winners whose names are posted in the club house. Thanks to Frank Halsey and his crew for coordinating this shoot.

Guns will be permitted, but it is strongly suggested that they only be kept inside if it is raining or snowing.

With the cold weather upon us the trap on field 2 will need to warmup for 15 to 20 minutes before it is used so that the hydraulic oil comes up to temperature. If this is not done the machine will not function properly. Also it is a good idea to turn on the heaters in the skeet houses by simply turning the timer switch knob. This will help to prevent the machines from throwing two birds at the same time.

When putting money/checks in the club deposit draw, please identify on the envelope or the check what the deposit is for. We recently received a deposit with the envelope marked “shooting”. The proper credit cannot be given to the member when this is done. Please fill in the blanks on the envelope.

If anyone is interested in getting certified for the handgun range, please contact Don Lyddon at 815-877-0754. You will need to bring a handgun, ammo, eye and ear protection, and a $25.00 annual fee.

I want to wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

President’s Message – November 2016

President’s Message

(Nov. 2016)

The Skeet Club (RSC) and the Northern Illinois Rifle and Pistol Club NIRPC) have negotiated a memorandum of agreement which helps to insure that our club will be secure for years to come in the event that the sale of the S&T land is sold to the NIRPC. The agreement includes the follow:

  • Six five year options upon the expiration of our current lease. Rental will be $7,900 per year which is the same as we will be paying with the last option of our current lease which expires in February 2025. After the first five year option there will be a 3% escalation for each 5 year option
  • The NIRPC grants RSC a right of first refusal on their land to the east of our club and the property that we will be leasing in the event that they decide to sell the land
  • NIRPC will not infringe on our over shoot agreement and will work with us to restructure the current agreement to benefit both clubs. Both organization will also attempt to work on a 5 stand venue over shoot agreement
  • All of our equipment will remain the property of the RSC.

As a result of this agreement and the possibility of future opportunities, it is the RSCs Board of Directors opinion that the sale of S&T to the NIRPC go forward.

This year’s Turkey Shoot is Saturday November 5. At 9am to noon. This shoot is for a $15.00 turkey. Participants will shoot 2 birds from each station on the trap field for a total of 10 birds. The high score from each five person squad will be the winner. For skeet, 2 birds will be shot from stations 1, 2, 4, 6, 7 for a total of 10 birds. The high score from each five person squad will be the winner. For 5 Stand, 2 birds will be shot from each station for a total of 10 birds. Again, the high score from each 5 person squad will be the winner. The cost is $5.00 each time an event is shot. Lunch is included

President’s Message – Oct. 2016

President’s Message

(Oct. 2016)

The Club hosted our annual Silver Dollar Shoot on August 13 & 14. It was a great success for the shooters and the club. Thanks to Dave and Beth Schroeder for putting on a heck of an event. Also thanks to Rich Tomasewski for doing the cooking and to all that helped to make this shoot run smoothly. Good job to all.

On behalf club I would like to congratulate the following members who participated in the Illinois State Skeet Shoot. Jeff Moecher won the High Overall title with a 393×400 and the High All Around title with a 492×500. Representing Rockford was Bob Zeek 100×100, Joe Vancura 100×100, Jeff Moecher 100×100, Ben Schroeder 99×100 and Jim Burrows 96×100 who shot a combined 495×500 to win the state 12ga club challenge championship. Ben Schroeder won the 28ga state championship title, his first with a 99×100 and a tough shoot off. Joe Vancura was inducted and joins Bob Zeek as a member of the Illinois Skeet Shooting Association hall of fame.

Thanks to Frank and Diana Halsey, and Todd Henry for organizing and coordinating the Old Geezer Shoot held on September 17. Also thanks to Dan Gengo for putting on a delicious pork chop sandwich lunch. The winners are posted in the club house.

In trying to keep our member and guests safe, it is required that when any member brings out 4 or more guests at one time that a member of the Board of Directors be notified so that the appropriate number of safety offices are present to assist in supervising the guests. It is difficult for one member to observe and to properly insure that the guests are observing all of our club’s safety rules. Even if the guests are experienced shooter, they may not know our safety rules. By no means is this intended to discourage guests from shooting at our club. We all have to insure that safety remains our number one concern. Thanks for your cooperation.

The annual Braggin Rights Shoot is on Saturday October 15. This is a fun shoot for all club members. Twenty five each of trap, skeet, and 5-stand will be shot. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three shooters.  It is a fun day and I encourage all levels of shooter to come on out and have some fun. Lunch is included. The following rules apply.

  • Cost is $5.00 plus three rounds. One round of trap, skeet, and 5 stand
  • Total of all three scores will determine the winners. Ties will be determined by a shoot off.
  • All entry money is returned at:
    • 1st place – 50%
    • 2nd place – 30%
    • 3rd place – 20%
  • Any gauge at any field can be used
  • Shooting between 9:00 AM and 12 noon
  • If you do not wish to shoot in the event, you can shoot at any open field or spot
  • Members only may shoot in the event but the club is open to guests
  • Non participants wanting lunch will be charged a $5.00 fee providing there is enough food

I want to share some of our latest club shooting metrics with all of you. For the year 2015, 13,857 rounds were shot at the three venues and the breakdown is as follows.

  • Skeet 10395 rounds (75%)
  • Trap 2233 rounds (16%)
  • 5 Stand 1229 rounds (9%)
