President’s Message – November 2017

President’s Message

(November 2017)

The replacement of the all three skeet fields’ cement walks and shooting stations pads has been completed. Additional landscaping is required and will be done this fall weather permitting. If not, it will be done in early spring. Whenever it is done the skeet fields will have to be shut down for one day. I will send out an email to all members in advance of starting work.

A memorial tree was planted in memory of club member Brian Anderson on November 1 using donations from his club shooting friends. A short planting ceremony was held on that day. The tree and a plaque are located behind skeet field 2 just off of the parking lot. Thanks to all of those that donated.

As I have reported an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) has been installed in the club house.  In conjunction with this life saving device a CPR class is being offered for those that are interested. The class will include CPR for adults, children, and infants, AED instruction, and choking. The cost is $50 per person. If you are interest in taking the class you can send me an email at sam.valenza@att.net or add your name to a sign up list that will be in the club house starting this Saturday November 11. We need a minimum of 10 people to hold the class in the club house.

Our radar gun, which is used to measure target speed, is missing. If anyone knows of its whereabouts, please contact me or a BOD member.

The 2018 membership renewal invoices will be sent out during the first week or two of December. Payment is due by February 1, 2018.

If anyone is interested in getting certified for the handgun range, please contact Don Lyddon at 815-877-0754 or Milt Schwanke at 815-988-2278. You will need to bring a handgun, ammo, eye and ear protection, and a $25.00 annual fee.

President’s Message – October 2017

President’s Message

(October 2017)

Board of Director (BOD) Clay Buhler has resigned his position on the board as a result of a change of jobs and work hours. I want to thank Clay for his service and dedication to the BOD and club over past years. He was a great addition to the board and will be missed. The fried chicken that he brought to the boards meetings when it was his turn will be missed most of all. LOL. The BOD has approved and has appointed Todd Hendry to fill the position for the remainder of Clay’s term. I want to welcome Todd to the BOD and look forward to working with him.

The replacement of the all three skeet fields’ cement walks and shooting stations pads are nearly complete and is looking great. Shooting will resume this Saturday Oct. 7 at 9 am.

We have received an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). Training was held on this past Wednesday evening. Hopefully we will never have to use it but it could save a life. It will be located in a cabinet on the wall to the left of the club house door. Let me know if anyone else would like to become familiar with its operation and I will arrange another training session. It is not required that a user be trained in order to use the machine in an emergency as the machine will use audible commands to walk the user through the process. A CPR class will be offered in the future for those that are interested.

The trap machine on trap field 1 cannot be repaired as parts are no longer available. You trap shooters will be happy to hear that a new Pat Trap is on order and should arrive in the next couple of weeks. The trap will be capable of singles, doubles, and wobble. The trap machine on field 2 can only throw singles and doubles. I will let you know when field 1 is operational.

If anyone is interested in getting certified for the handgun range, please contact Don Lyddon at 815-877-0754. You will need to bring a handgun, ammo, eye and ear protection, and a $25.00 annual fee.

President’s Message Sept. 2017

President’s Message

(September 2017)

The Club hosted our annual Silver Dollar Shoot on August 12 & 13. I would like to thank Dave Schroeder and his crew for hosting a successful shoot. Congratulations to all of the winners whose names are posted in the club house.

I want to thank all of the members that donated money for the Brian Anderson memorial tree. The tree and a memorial plaque will be installed this fall.

The appreciation lunch for our good neighbors at the landfill is this Friday September 15 from 10am to 2pm. The club house for members will be unavailable except for bathroom use and recording of targets in the log book. All shooting venues will be available for use by members during the luncheon.

The BOD has approved the replacement of the cement stations and walkways on all three skeet fields as they are badly cracked and some of them are sagging below grade.  The plan is to replace the cement on all three fields at the same time this fall, as a result, shooting will not be allowed on the skeet fields until all the work has been completed which will take 10 to 14 days. I will notify you in advance of the start of work. Work will start around the end of September. Shooting on the trap, sporting clay, and handgun range will be allowed during the construction period.

Over the past couple of weeks the doors to the barn and the skeet houses were left open with the machines running. If you are the last to leave the club or use a venue, it is your responsibility to insure that the club is secure by turning off the machines and the releasing the arms, closing and locking the doors and gates, turning off the lights in the skeet and trap houses and the barn The lights in the club house are on sensors and don’t need to be touched.

The Board of Directors has approved the purchase of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). We will receive it in the next few weeks. The company will be training club members to use it. Therefore anyone interested in getting trained can participate. I will let you know when the training is scheduled.

The Braggin Rights Shoot has been rescheduled from September 23 to Saturday, September 30 provided work on the skeet fields has not started. If work has started the shoot will be cancelled for this year. This is a fun shoot for all club members. Twenty five each of trap, skeet, and 5-stand will be shot. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three shooters.  It is a fun day and I encourage all levels of shooter to come on out and have some fun. Lunch is included. The following rules apply:

  • Cost is $5.00 plus three rounds. One round of trap, skeet, and 5 stand
  • Total of all three scores will determine the winners. Ties will be determined by a shoot off.
  • All entry money is returned at:
    • 1st place – 50%
    • 2nd place – 30%
    • 3rd place – 20%
  • Any gauge at any field can be used
  • Shooting between 9:00 AM and 12 noon
  • If you do not wish to shoot in the event, you can shoot at any open field or spot
  • Members only may shoot in the event but the club is open to guests

Trap field 1 is still not operational due to a broken motor. We are still hoping to figure out the problem and fix it in the near future.  I know that I keep promising to have it fixed but parts are a problem for this old machine. If all fails, we will buy a new machine next spring. I will keep you advised as to our progress.

If anyone is interested in getting certified for the handgun range, please contact Don Lyddon at 815-877-0754. You will need to bring a handgun, ammo, eye and ear protection, and a $25.00 annual fee.

With the passing of Brian Anderson, the BOD has decided to plant a tree with a plaque dedicated to his memory. The BOD has approved the replacement of the cement stations and walkways on all three skeet field as they are badly cracked and some of them are sagging below grade.  The plan is to replace the cement on at least two fields this fall and maybe all three. If not, the third field will be completed next spring. When a final plan has been determined, I will notify you of the scheduled work.

We have some new summer club hats for sale at $20.00 each. The hats are located in the book case on the back wall of the club house. Put the money in an envelope and place it in the club deposit drawer. Be sure to mark with envelope indicating that the money is for a hat purchase.

It appears that some members are not logging out the remotes for sport clays/5 stand. Please be sure to logout the remotes by signing the log sheet that is in the drawer with the remotes. Also, only club remotes are to be used. Personal remotes are prohibited from being used on this venue. Reason being is that we cannot get an accurate target count if other remotes are used.

I want to thank our good neighbors over at the landfill for donating gravel and for spreading it over our parking lot by the target barn. They did a really nice job. Thank you Lacey Ballard and crew.
