Our next club shoot is the Old Geezer Shoot scheduled for Saturday July 22 at 9 am. This shoot will be one round of trap and one round of skeet. The entry fee is $5.00 plus two rounds to be logged on your log sheet. The entry fee includes a, pork chop sandwich lunch. The age brackets are as following: 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75 and up. Awards will be given to the 1st., 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Come on out and join the fun.

Trap field 1 is still not operational due to a broken motor. We are trying to locate a relay required to complete the repair. I will keep you all advised as to our progress.

We will be having our parking lot seal coated on August 1, 2017. Unfortunately the club will be closed that day and will not be open until 12 noon on August 2. Please mark your calendars. I will send out another reminder as we get closer to that date.

Club Member Tim Jevurek has agreed to join our machine maintenance committee. As he is an auto mechanic and owns his own auto repair business, I’m sure he will do a fine job after a little training form our head mechanic Clay Buhler. Thanks Tim for your willingness to serve the club.

I want to thank our good neighbors over at the landfill for donating gravel and for spreading it over our parking lot by the target barn. They did a really nice job. Thank you Lacey Ballard and crew.

With the passing of Brian Anderson, the BOD has decided that as an alternative to donating to his memorial fund for charity that we will start a collection to plant a tree with a plaque dedicated to his memory. If you would like to contribute, please place an envelope with your donation in the deposit drawer at the club or mail it to the following address. It is our plan to plant the tree this fall.

We are looking for spray paint cans to be donated to paint the steel targets on the handgun range. If anyone has any spray paint cans that still have a good amount of paint in them that are no longer need, bring them on out to the club. Please be sure that the cans are functional. Color does not matter.

As of late several dog dropping have been left as gifts to the club. If you bring your dog to the club, please make sure that they are supervised and do not interfere with the shooters. Also be sure to pick up their unwanted gifts.

If anyone is interested in getting certified for the handgun range, please contact Don Lyddon at 815-877-0754. You will need to bring a handgun, ammo, eye and ear protection, and a $25.00 annual fee.

President’s Message – June 2017

President’s Message

(June 2017)

I want to thank the members that came out for cleanup day. A lot was accomplished and the club grounds look great. Thanks for donating your time.

Last year we had a vintage gun shoot that was not very well attended so we decided to have a vintage gun shoot in combination with a modern gun shoot. This shoot will be held on Saturday, June 24 at 9:00am. Vintage gun are defined as shotguns made prior to World War II. By making this change it is hoped that we will get more members to participate. Lunch is included. Let’s make this fun and the biggest club shoot ever. Frank Halsey and crew will be hosting this event.

Rules for the vintage and modern gun shoot.

  • If you start with a vintage gun, you must finish with one
  • If you start with a modern gun, you must finish with one
  • There will be two different shoots – one vintage and one modern
  • The shoot will consist of a round of trap at 16 yds., a round of skeet, and ending with 25 bird at 5 stand
  • There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies for both classes
  • The entry fee is $5 plus the cost of 3 rounds. Please do not forget to log your three rounds on your log sheet

After promising that we were going to install Wi-Fi, I have to regretfully inform you that it is not going to happen. After checking with various providers, it has been determined that getting a signal/service is not possible at this time. There are hot spot services available but they are not cost effective.

Trap field 1 is still not operational due to a broken motor. The motor is being repaired and it is hoped that this field will be up and running in the next couple of weeks.

I want to remind everyone that our shooting hours are 9am to 9pm if shooting under the trap and/or skeet lights. If not shooting under the lights, shooting stops a half hour before dark. Our special use permit restricts shooting only during these time frames.

We will be ordering more club hats in the near future. They will be displayed in the book case mounted on the back wall. If you purchase a hat, please put the money an envelope located on the log book desk and place it the club deposit drawer.

If anyone is interested in getting certified for the handgun range, please contact Don Lyddon at 815-877-0754. You will need to bring a handgun, ammo, eye and ear protection, and a $25.00 annual fee.

President’s Message – May 2017

President’s Message

(May 2017)

Our annual spring cleanup is at 8:30 am on Saturday May 6. Bring out your shovels, rakes, and trimmers. No shooting will be allowed until all of the work is done. I hope to see you there. Lunch will be provided.

We are still working on getting Wi-Fi in the club house. I will advise all of you when it is installed.

The Board has decided to wait until fall to determine if new skeet field cement work will be done. Most likely we will replace the cement on one field each year for the next three years.

As stated in my last month’s Presidents Message, the club is considering installing card reader systems for all trap, skeet, and 5 stand/sporting clays fields. We will be receiving a demo unit in the next few days so that we can test the system. The demo unit will be installed on skeet field 3 and the board members will test it for reliability, functionality, and ease of use. The unit will be operational only when testing. When it is not being tested the field will operate as it is today and anyone is can use that field.

We are planning on getting a load of gravel to be spread on the gravel parking lot by the storage barn. The existing gravel has been crushed and moved as a result of snow plowing which creates pools of water when it rains. This will hopefully be done in the next 30 days.

If anyone is interested in getting certified for the handgun range, please contact Don Lyddon at 815-877-0754. You will need to bring a handgun, ammo, eye and ear protection, and a $25.00 annual fee.

President’s Message – April 2017

President’s Message

(April 2017)

The installation of three pulley systems for the handgun range is complete. Thanks to Randy Scott and Greg Baylander for designing and installing them.

Hopefully it will be done this month. I will email all of you the password once the system is installed.

Club member, Jerry Cello, is offering a handgun refresher class on 29 April at the club. He will also be offering a youth shoot using 22 rifles and a conceal carry class. For more information regarding dates, times, costs, etc. contact Jerry at jlcello1978@gmail.com or call him at 815-322-6721.

The club is considering installing card reader systems for all trap, skeet, and 5 stand/sporting clays fields. In simple terms, rounds would be loaded to a machine card and that card would be swiped through a card reader located on each field. I know that this will generate a lot of question. However, more information on payment method, procedures, etc. will be provided if and when the board decides to implement such a system.

If anyone is interested in getting certified for the handgun range, please contact Don Lyddon at 815-877-0754. You will need to bring a handgun, ammo, eye and ear protection, and a $25.00 annual fee.

S&T Land Status – Ed Clifford provided an update to the members
While the direction on how to complete sale is still being worked out, Ed stated the S & T Landcorp is leaning toward selling shares of S & T to NIRPC in order to protect the right of first refusal to S & T on adjoining Windquist property.
A discussion ensued that was inconclusive as to whether the S & T had the authority to complete the sale in this manner. However it was recommended that S & T review their by-laws for compliance.

Club Shooting metrics –
Shooting metrics were prepared from log books and charts on shooting frequency were presented and on display at club.
This was the second year the metrics were developed and presented to the membership. The metrics will be posted in club house.

President’s Message

(February 2017)

The membership renewal period for 2017 expired on Feb. 1. Last year was another record year for membership at 273 up from 268 in 2015. We begin this membership year with 254 members with a loss of 7% or 19 members. Typically 8 to 10% of our members do not renew their membership. Hopefully with new member signups we can again set a record.

Please mark your calendrers for the annual meeting which will be held on March 25, 2017 at 9am at the club. The BOD will be addressing club finances, shooting metrics, events and projects, election results, and taking questions from attendees.

Nominations for the open BOD positions are closed as of by February 1. Electronic ballots will be emailed on or before March 1, 2017. For those that do not have an email address on file a paper copy will be mailed on or before March 1. The voting for both types of ballets will close at midnight on March 20, 2017.

The 2016 end of the year financial reports will be posted in the club house for your review. Another banner/record year for our financial position.

We are investigating installing Wi-Fi in the club house. If this is feasible, I will email all of you  the password once the system is installed.

We are also looking into mud jacking or replacing some of the skeet concrete pads that are sagging below grade. This will be done sometime in the spring or early summer.

If anyone is interested in getting certified for the handgun range, please contact Don Lyddon at 815-877-0754. You will need to bring a handgun, ammo, eye and ear protection, and a $25.00 annual fee.
