President’s Message – August 2021

President’s Message

(August, 2021)

Thanks to Rich Tonasewski and his helpers Victor Barkauskas, and Bob Raley for repairing and painting all the skeet houses and replacing the stairways on all of the skeet fields. They look amazing. Thanks, guys, for your hard work and skills.

We are having cement work done on the skeet fields and as a result all skeet fields will be closed on Wednesday Aug. 4 and Thursday Aug. 5. Trap, 5-stand, and the handgun range will remain open.

The club fun day went was held in July and went very well. Thanks to Dan Gengo for preparing the food which was delicious. Numerous prizes were handed out during the drawing and raffle. The plan is do it again next year since we had a good turnout and I think fun was had by all.

The board is addressing the results of the club survey. We are in the process in getting instructors for all of the venues and establishing dates. Once this is done, I will notify all of you. There is interest in trap and skeet leagues. If anyone is interested in running a league either this fall and/or next spring, please let me know.  A 5-stand league is currently up and running.  A bird dog working demonstration is also being planned for next spring.

The sale of the Skeet Club land to the Northern Illinois and Pistol Club has been finalized. Some of our board members will be meeting with some of their board members in the near future. Please know that we have protected our club with a signed memorandum of agreement which insures that we will be shooting on the property for at least the next 30 years.

Twilight Tuesday Connections Each second and fourth Tuesday evening starting a 7 pm come and join your fellow sportsmen and sportswomen for a couple of low-key rounds of skeet.  Some of the nights we will have a theme but you can shoot any gun that you prefer.
August 10: Bring a different action.  Levers, Pumps, what have you got?
August 24: TBD

Bill Shold, Skeet Chairman (williamshold@gmail.com), is coordinating these shoots.

In an effort to attract new members August 28 will be no fee days for guests. Only pay for rounds shot. Each member is allowed to bring 4 guests from 9 am to noon. Members/safety officers will be available to help with safety and shooting instructions. Check in at the club house by signing the guest book and obtaining a visitors’ badge for your guests. Hopefully they will leave with a membership application in hand.

If anyone is interested in getting certified for the handgun range, please contact Milt Schwanke at 815-988-2278, George Ketter at 815-456-2871, or Caleb Davis at 815-243-1483. You will need to bring a handgun, ammo, eye and ear protection and a $25.00 annual fee.
