President’s Message – August 2021

President’s Message

(August, 2021)

Thanks to Rich Tonasewski and his helpers Victor Barkauskas, and Bob Raley for repairing and painting all the skeet houses and replacing the stairways on all of the skeet fields. They look amazing. Thanks, guys, for your hard work and skills.

We are having cement work done on the skeet fields and as a result all skeet fields will be closed on Wednesday Aug. 4 and Thursday Aug. 5. Trap, 5-stand, and the handgun range will remain open.

The club fun day went was held in July and went very well. Thanks to Dan Gengo for preparing the food which was delicious. Numerous prizes were handed out during the drawing and raffle. The plan is do it again next year since we had a good turnout and I think fun was had by all.

The board is addressing the results of the club survey. We are in the process in getting instructors for all of the venues and establishing dates. Once this is done, I will notify all of you. There is interest in trap and skeet leagues. If anyone is interested in running a league either this fall and/or next spring, please let me know.  A 5-stand league is currently up and running.  A bird dog working demonstration is also being planned for next spring.

The sale of the Skeet Club land to the Northern Illinois and Pistol Club has been finalized. Some of our board members will be meeting with some of their board members in the near future. Please know that we have protected our club with a signed memorandum of agreement which insures that we will be shooting on the property for at least the next 30 years.

Twilight Tuesday Connections Each second and fourth Tuesday evening starting a 7 pm come and join your fellow sportsmen and sportswomen for a couple of low-key rounds of skeet.  Some of the nights we will have a theme but you can shoot any gun that you prefer.
August 10: Bring a different action.  Levers, Pumps, what have you got?
August 24: TBD

Bill Shold, Skeet Chairman (williamshold@gmail.com), is coordinating these shoots.

In an effort to attract new members August 28 will be no fee days for guests. Only pay for rounds shot. Each member is allowed to bring 4 guests from 9 am to noon. Members/safety officers will be available to help with safety and shooting instructions. Check in at the club house by signing the guest book and obtaining a visitors’ badge for your guests. Hopefully they will leave with a membership application in hand.

If anyone is interested in getting certified for the handgun range, please contact Milt Schwanke at 815-988-2278, George Ketter at 815-456-2871, or Caleb Davis at 815-243-1483. You will need to bring a handgun, ammo, eye and ear protection and a $25.00 annual fee.

President’s Message

(July 6, 2021)

Club Fun Day

We are having a club fun day on July 17, 2021 from 9 am to 1 pm. This is a non-competitive event. There will be drawings for shotgun ammunition and a raffle for 10 rounds. Everyone that participates will be given a free ticket for the drawings. The raffle tickets for the 10 rounds can be purchased for $1.00 per ticket. Additional tickets can be earned by breaking a green target on the skeet and trap (wobble and standard) fields and a pink target on the 5-stand field. The shooter can choose which ticket to claim for either the drawing or the raffle. A bullseye match will be held at the pistol range. The closest to the bullseye will win the total funds collected. The cost is $1.00 per shot. A delicious lunch will be provided around noon. There is no fee to attend this event. As usual, rounds shot have to be recorded on your log sheet. Guests are welcome.

Our annual meeting is July 17 at 8:30 am outside on the grounds. This event will be held on the same day as the club fun day. The BOD will be addressing club finances, events and projects, and taking questions from the attendees.

A survey has been sent out to all members that have an email address on file and the results are in. There is interest in a trap and skeet league. We currently have a 5-stand league that is in progress. There is also interest in shooting techniques for all our venues, a bird dog working demonstration, and an archery range. I will keep you all informed as the board develops plans to address the results of the survey. Stay tuned.

Again, it has been brought to my attention that some members are not properly turning the trap and skeet machine on and off correctly. Signs for the proper operation of the machines are posted in the houses. Also, some are not operating the wobble and doubles features on the trap machines correctly and are not returning them to the normal operating mode when done shooting. Please take some time to read and follow the instructions.

A new air conditioner and air purifier has been installed in the club house. The old one was around 25 years old. I’d say we got our money’s worth.

The club is now open for business as usual. However, if you are sick, stay home. Masks are optional. If you have not been fully vaccinated it is strongly recommended that masks be worn. Keep your fellow members safe and healthy.

Thanks to all that attended the club cleanup day. We had a good turnout despite the iffy weather. A lot was accomplished and the grounds look great.

Thanks to Lacey Ballard and his crew at the landfill for building a new access entry path for the handgun range and the 5-stand venue. This path is located behind the club house. The old entry gate off of Lindenwood road is permanently closed. I would also like to thank Bob Zeek for moving the propane tank and installing new controls and Caleb Davis and Dan Gengo for coordinating this project. As a result of the access point, handicap parking will be relocated and posted with new signs.
